Motorists in Kisumu are calling on the county government to speed up the construction of key roads in the city.
For the past one year, a number of key roads have been undergoing expansion, and motorists say the project is taking too long, something that has brought about a lot of inconveniences.
The motorists said they are forced to use alternative routes when accessing the city centre, something that wastes time and fuel.
“Everybody wants to use the alternative route, this creates traffic jam. In the process, we lose a lot of time on the road. Time wasted is never recovered”, said Paul Okumu.
The motorists are calling on the county government to crack the whip on lazy contractors who are slow in the construction of the road as it is hurting the economy of Kisumu in general.
“If a contractor is taking long to deliver then fire him and get a new one because we have capable ones out there who are ready to deliver”, said Caren Chepkoech.
Whenever it rains the motorists complained of floods on the roads something that has been of inconvenience to many.
Last year, the county government fired 36 contractors for not delivering on time.
