The Mombasa County government is set to include school drama festivals and sports in the upcoming education budget allocation for the year 2016-2017.

Speaking during a briefing with the media, Mombasa County Education and Environment CeC Lewa Tendai said there is need to give children hope through co-curricular activities.

“Every year schools come to ask for sponsorship to get transport to go for Drama festivals and so we have seen the need to come up with an appropriate allocation in areas of art and games so as to ensure our kids are supported,” said Tendai.

Tendai also added that there is need for schools to listen to children needs so as to stop the rebellion culture that is being witnessed in different schools.

Meanwhile, Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) Chairperson Fuad Ali has called upon the government to release the money that was allocated for free Primary education.

“Last week when we talked to the education CS, they said they were working on it but the money is yet to be,” said Ali.
