Kiambu County Environment, Water and Natural Resources CeC Esther Njuguna has assured residents of Ruiru Sub-County that they will soon be supplied with clean tap water.

Speaking at Mwihoko trading centre in Githurai on Saturday, the CeC said the county has embarked on renovation and upgrading of water pipes and systems.

She said that residents will be supplied with clean tap water in a bid to address water problems being experienced by locals.

The CeC said that access to clean tap water has been a major challenge not only in Githurai but also in other areas.

She said the county has set aside adequate funds to ensure residents are connected to clean tap water.

“The county government has started upgrading of water pipes and systems so that locals can have access to clean tap water,” said the CeC.

She urged residents not to tamper with water pipes and systems saying that vandalism is one of the major problems facing the supply of water.

The CeC who was accompanied by the county director of water services said the county government will ensure that locals across the county have access to clean tap water before the end of the year.

She said that water is a basic necessity, adding that the county government is keen to ensure there is enough water for human and consumption, as well as for irrigation.

The CeC also said that plans to drill boreholes in every ward across the county are ongoing.

Last month, Ruiru lawmaker Esther Gathongo asked the county government to fast-track supply of clean water to residents.

The MP said a large percentage of residents do have access to clean water, as many depend vendors.
