Kisumu County government will cater for the funeral costs and hospital bills of Nandi-Kisumu border clashes victims.
Governor Jack Ranguma said they had reached out to the affected families and assured the victims that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
Last Friday, clashes at Kibigori junction caused the death of five people, with 15 others critically injured.
Eight houses were also torched during the skirmishes said to have been precipitated by cattle rustling and land encroachment.
Ranguma said the county government will also rebuild houses of the families that were left homeless during the skirmishes.
Speaking during a peace meeting at Kibigori area on Wednesday, Ranguma said his government will cater for mortuary, transport and postmortem costs among other expenses.
National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis ole Kaparo, County Commissioner John Elungata, Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo and top police officers were also present at the meeting.
Ranguma condemned the killing of innocent people and condoled with the affected families.
“At this time of grief and sadness time, I pray to the Almighty Lord to give the families, relatives, and friends the strength to overcome the losses,” he mourned.
He asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to establish a special anti-stock theft unit at the troubled border.
Koyoo and Kaparo asked the communities to peacefully coexist and dialogue whenever they have conflicts.
Koyoo warned the neighbouring communities against politics of hatred and incitement, which he said causes conflicts.
