Tala Market traders have a reason to smile after the Machakos County government embarked on a mission to unblock drainage systems in the area.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Matungulu Sub-County administrator, Victor Kiatu, said the county government gave out excavators to widen and unblock tunnels around the market and its environs.
Kiatu said the exercise which started on Monday is aimed at ensuring free flow of rain water in the area, in a bid to avoid destruction of property.
The administrator said the exercise had been delayed because they were waiting for the excavators.
"We assured residents we would look into the matter and we have fulfilled our promise. The excavators are on the ground unblocking the tunnels and widening some of them to ensure free flow of water,” said Kiatu.
He added, "We are hoping that after the exercise is completed, we will not be experiencing floods in Tala.”
