Uasin Gishu chairman of Imams and Muslim preachers Abubakar Bini has called for the amendment of the constitution to give the president more powers to fight corruption.

Speaking in his office on Friday, Bini said that the president has been tied by the constitution to fight corruption since the anti corruption is one responsible to handle corrupt cases.

"The constitution should be amended to give the president powers to deal with corrupt officers instead of giving the mandate to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission which takes ages to investigate corrupt officers and prosecute them," he said.

He said the president wants to fight corruption but his hands are tied by the constitution only left with nothing to do but giving false promises.

"I urge the National Assembly to amend the constitution and give more powers to the president in the fight against corruption if they want corruption to be fought," he said.

He added if the constitution is not amended cases of corruption will be the order of the day in the national government.

"The president is a politicians elected by the public and given more powers he won’t allow corruption in his government," he said.

He, however, urged the president to tighten his efforts in the fight against corruption by disbanding his entire cabinet and replacing it with a new one.
