Speaking on Thursday during a pre-Christmas party organised by Uasin Gishu County government, Kabiru said the facility is currently handling almost double the population that its supposed to host.

"The Eldoret GK prison facility is supposed to handle six hundred inmates at a time, at the moment the facility is handling one thousand six hundred inmates, an excess of over one thousand," he said.

"It is very difficult for us to handle such a huge number of inmates since we have limited facilities that are in a deplorable condition," he said.

He urged the national government through the Ministry of Interior to build more facilities to cater for the increasing number of inmates.

"I urge President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to our rescue and build more facilities to arrest the situation," he appealed.
