A section of politicians from Nyamira County continued to mount pressure on President Uhuru Kenyatta to crack a whip on Treasury officials who were mentioned by opposition leader Raila Odinga as ‘persons of interest’ in an alleged loss of Sh140 billion that was obtained by the government through a Euro bond.
Speaking during a fundraiser for Nyamiranga Catholic Church, the politicians, led by Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, challenged the president to relive those mentioned of their duties for an in-depth investigations.
He said the Treasury had failed to account for the money since no tangible project could vindicate the government of corruption.
“I am an economist by profession and we have tried to analyse the figure given by Treasury and I can say without fear that some money got lost. The projects which the government is claiming that the money was diverted to are not real. It’s time for those involved to step aside and pave way for investigations,” he said.
North Mugirango MP Charles Geni termed the government as ‘den of corruption’ and challenged officials from the Treasury to resign since they had failed to counter the dossier released by Mr Odinga.
“The opposition raised critical anomalies in the Euro bond and the Treasury hasn’t given a counter argument that Kenyans can believe in. it’s time to resign from their offices to allow independent investigations if at all they have nothing to hide. Otherwise, I support my party leader’s stand that money was lost through dubious transaction,” he added.
Nyamira women Rep Alice Chae cautioned individuals who were mentioned against inciting their tribesmen to demonstrate.
“We know that Nyaoga (Mohammed) is trying to hide in the name of the community. They have to defend themselves using the rightful ways. I otherwise, president Uhuru should bring this topic to an end by urging the officials to step down,” she said.
