As the 2017 elections approach, many leaders have come out strongly to call on Kenyans to register as voters so as to participate in the exercise set for August next year.
Just like any other person, those interested in different governmental positions have started declaring their interest and asking for support.
In Nairobi, Margaret Wanjiru, who was also MP for Starehe Constituency, has declared her interest in the Nairobi governor’s seat. Wanjiru is well known for her slogan ‘the glory is here’ and still maintains that her glory will be present in the 2017 general elections.
The current Nairobi senator, Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko, has also declared interest in the same seat. Sonko called on adults to register as voters.
‘‘I am also in the Nairobi governor’s race 2017 so be ready for change by registering in large numbers,’’ he said.
Anne Waiguru, who is the former CS for devolution, has declared her stand saying she will fight for the governor’s position in Nairobi.
Nominated MP, Johnson Sakaja, has also declared his interest in the seat.
The Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero, has, however, not communicated if he will vie for the seat the second time or not.
Next years’ elections will clearly have a variety of candidates to choose from.
