Property worth thousands of shillings went up in flames on Saturday evening after a fire broke out at Kichinjio village in Kibera.

The 6pm fire consumed all the property of tenants living in the upper floor as efforts to salvage them proved futile as the place is so congested.

Speaking to this writer, one of the affected tenants Mary Mwokazi said the fire was put out by the fire fighters from the city council who came at around 7pm.

“The fire broke out at around 6pm until 7pm when the fire fighters arrived. However it was hard because the place is so congested,” said Mwokazi.

It was believed that a child was trapped inside one of the house but the father to the child has reported that the child is safe.

“We were worried that a baby was trapped inside but later on we found her. She was saved after she crawled to the stairs where a Good Samaritan rescued her. It is a miracle because this child managed to crawl,” she added.
