Police in Malindi on Wednesday killed four terror suspects who were reportedly planning to attack a local shopping centre and a police post in the area.
Confirming the incident, Malindi police boss Mutava Muchangi, said that the four, who are suspected to be linked to the al-Shabaab militia group, were killed after police officers raided a residence in Malindi, 120km away from the port of Mombasa, following a tip-off from members of the public.
"The suspects started firing at our officers when they were challenged to surrender. We shot at them killing four after a shot exchange," said Muchangi.
The suspects are said to have also hurled a hand grenade at the police officers, but none was injured.
The OCPD said that the four are suspected to be among those who fled from Mombasa following a police crackdown in Majengo area.
