Two elderly men have been hospitalised at the Naivasha Sub-county Hospital after they were attacked on Tuesday morning by suspected Maasai herders at Utheri wa Lari farm.

Utheri Wa Lari farm chairman Stephen Muiru said the two were ambushed by suspected Maasai herders who inflicted serious injuries.

“We do not know what they did this because there was no dispute between the two communities - Kikuyu and Maasai - which live on this vast farm," he said on Wednesday when contacted.

He added that police had failed in their job of ensuring safety of residents on the farm, further accusing senior officers in Naivasha of being partial in providing officers to patrol the area.

“The area is supposed to be patrolled by both the regular police and APs from Mai Mahiu and Naivasha but we have seen of late that the OCS from Naivasha withdrew his officers after one party said they were being intimidated, which gave them an opportunity to attack our people,” he said.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri visited the two elderly men at the hospital on Wednesday who are said to be in a serious condition as they had deep cuts on their heads.

He called on security apparatus in the area to step up their efforts and secure the farm which has been at the centre of controversy for a long time pitting two communities, each party claiming ownership.

Other MPs from Nakuru are expected to visit the two in hospital before issuing a joint statement.
