Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has raised concerns over rising accidents involving bodaboda operators.

She now wants the riders to observe road regulations to tame the accidents.

Speaking to bodaboda operators at Ruiru Town on Saturday, the MP said that it is necessary for operators to adhere to traffic regulations. She stated that several cases of accidents involving bodaboda riders have been reported in the recent past.

“Bodaboda riders should make sure that they follow the laid down road regulations for their safety and also to help reduce on these rising accidents,” she said.

The MP further asked bodaboda riders to enrol for frequent refresher courses to get more skills. She noted that refresher courses and training will be handy in taming accidents.

Gathogo indicated that the bodaboda sector has employed many youths and that it will be necessary if proper measures are put in place to ensure their safety.

She appealed to the government and stakeholders to organize sensitisation and safety awareness for bodaboda operators and other road users.

The MP pledged to work with bodaboda operators in order to ensure their safety concerns are addressed. At the same time, the lawmaker urged the government to boost security across the constituency.

She noted that cases of bodaboda riders being attacked by goons especially at night had been reported in the past month.

“Our security agencies and law enforcers must work around the clock and provide security so that our young men involved in bodaboda sector and other sectors can feel secure,” added the lawmaker.
