Nakuru County has been lauded for Gender Based Violence Unit (GBVU) establishment in all health facilities.

According to Nakuru residents, the units have helped them in finding solutions against gender based violence.

“Before we had these units and it happens you are a victim of GBV, you had to endure so much because there was nobody to help you. But today, I can attest to the fact that the unit at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital is a success,” said Ann Wambui, a resident.

Wambui narrated to this writer that she had been a victim of domestic violence for over eight years but since the inception of the unit, life has changed.

“The most important thing about the unit is that they understand what you feel and what you go through and assist you,” she said.

Nakuru County Executive Chair in-charge of Finance and Trade Ann Njenga in marking the end of 16 days of activism against GBV said that Nakuru has made huge strides in reversing the trend.

She was representing governor Kinuthia Mbugua at Nyayo gardens in Nakuru on Thursday when the world marked the 24th anniversary of activism against GBV.

The 16-days campaign focused on issues touching on sexual and gender based violence, human rights obligations, abuse of power, and arbitrary disrespect for human rights among other things.
