Githunguri Constituency Development Fund has plans to use at least Sh12.5 million on opening, grading and murraming five major roads in the region, and work on the projects has already began.
Addressing the press on Monday at the CDF offices in Ikinu Location, CDF chairman Mburu Karoba said the decision to improve the infrastructure in the constituency aims at boosting transport.
He said among the roads earmarked for construction are Kairiani-Ikinu, Kamuchege-Githunguri, and Gitwe -Githiga.
Karoba clarified that the money being spend on the projects was committed in the 2015-2016 financial year, and the move will enable the small scale farmers to access the markets for their goods with ease.
He said other roads to be worked on were Githunguri-Kahunira and Githunguri-Ikinu.
The chairman regretted that most contractors who wished to be engaged to work on the projects had no capacity to do so as they were required to work upfront, and get payment after they complete their work.
On education, Karoba said the office was in the process of constructing 24 classrooms and laboratories at Ikinu, Kahunira and Kamuchege secondary schools in order to uplift the standard of education.
