Igegania Sub District Hospital doctor Moses Mwagu has urged women to go for early testing and screening for HIV/Aids, breast and cervical cancers.

Speaking at the hospital on Thursday morning, Mwagu said HIV infection increases women’s risk of Human Papillomavirus infection, a leading cause of cervical cancer.

"Half of those diagnosed with cancer died in 2015 in Kenya, hence the need for early and regular check ups," he said.

"I urge women to know their status, medical experts have observed that most cancers could be cured if detected early," he said.

He revealed the importance of women knowing their status early before getting to a tricky stage where treating the disease could be impossible.

He also asked them to stay away from having multiple sexual partners.

"This is not only for women but also to men who infect their wives with non-curable diseases after sleeping around with infected persons. Infidelity must also stop if we are to win this war," he said.

The doctor insisted on the need for aggressive sensitisation especially of women in the rural areas, who in many cases need more information on health issues, with HIV/Aids, breast and cervical cancer being among the common ailments affecting most of them.
