Mediheal Group of Hospitals Chief Executive Officer S. R Mishra has urged county and national governments to increase their budgetary allocation for women empowerment.
Speaking after donating five tents, 250 chairs, a milling machine and a public address system to Kapchamo Women Poverty Eradication Group at Kapchamo ward on Friday, Mishra said the money given to women groups is a drop in the ocean and should be increased.
"Gone are the days when women were deemed as those whose place is in the kitchen, county and national governments need to empower them by allocating more funds to their groups, since some groups are given as low as Sh20,000," he said.
He said through empowering women, they will start projects that will help them earn a living and stop depending on their husbands for money.
"We should allow women to manage our resource since they are good managers and therefore should be empowered to improve their livelihoods and that of their children," he said.
He promised to donate one tractor for the women group to help them ferry their produce from their farms and also use it to earn a living.
The chair lady of Kapchamo Women Poverty Eradication Group Elizabeth Sang urged women to join and register women groups for them to benefit from the funds being given by county and national governments.
