The third edition of Kisii University graduation on Friday saw various scholar and leaders condemn examination cheating and malpractices.
The debate which had been ignited by the institution’s chairman of the council Eng Sebastian Mwarania, saw other dons and Kisii governor James Ongwae join the debate in condemning exam cheating with strongest terms possible.
“As an institution, we have put mechanisms to ensure students approach exams well prepared without necessarily being engaging in malpractices. Exam cheating belongs to the past century and that is why we as an institution have combated the act of criminality by expelling culprits in the past,” he said.
Registrar of the institution Prof Philip Owino insisted that the institution will not hesitate to expel those found culpable of cheating and said the institution had put mechanisms of ensuring the institution remained among the best in producing quality graduates.
“No institution condones cheating in exams and as an institution we have set mechanisms to ensure we produce quality graduates. We also have CCTV cameras in examination rooms to ensure that vice is not given room,” he added.
Ongwae on his part urged managements of primary and secondary schools from the region to ensure the cases are severely dealt with to put the region on the front line in curbing exam malpractices.
“This year I visited nearly all education offices in Nairobi to address the issue of malpractices in our region. It’s time for management of our secondary and primary schools from these region copy from the university to combat such crimes,” he said.
