The county government of Kisii is set to hold annual Governor’s Christmas tree to raise funds that will be used to purchase Christmas presents for the needy and underprivileged in the society.

Speaking during a visit to Tumaini Children’s home in Jogoo estate on Sunday, Mr Johnson Ndege urged county resident’s to turn up in large numbers for the event so as to raise funds that will facilitate the exercise.

He said the funds that will be raised will be distributed in children homes and elderly centers in the county’s nine sub-counties before 25th December 2015.

“We are in the festive period and everyone regardless of the social status must feel worthy. We have put everything in place ahead of the Governor’s Christmas tree on Wednesday and I take this opportunity to welcome all so that we can raise funds that will be used to help the needy in the society,” Ndege said.

Ndege said the county will also take an initiative to celebrate with street children as it looks for alternatives of orienting them to fit in the society.

“We have already identified children centers and the aged homes across the nine sub-counties and we are optimistic that event will help us hold them a nice party as we end the year. We are also targeting a number of street children whom we are determined to ensure they abandon the life and integrate with the society,” he added.

Governor James Ongwae and his Deputy Joash Maangi will lead a delegation of county leaders and other high profile guests in the event that will be held at the county headquarters.
