Chiefs and assistant chiefs who holds a degree certificate will be upgraded to assistant county commissioners, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the ministry of Interior and coordination of the national government, Dr. Monica Juma has disclosed.
The PS advised the officers who have acquired such documents to hand them together with other credentials to the ministry headquarters for consideration of the appointments.
She noted that currently, there are over 100 vacant posts for assistant county commissioners which need to be filled as soon as possible. The PS said this on Wednesday at Gusii Stadium grounds when she attended anti-corruption day in Kisii county.
She told them that they should no longer panic because their existence has been recognised in the constitution and their roles legally stipulated.
“The security docket is under the national government and not the county government administration,’’ the PS noted.
Monica said that the national government is in the process of providing all chiefs and assistant chiefs with motor cycles and all sub county and assistant county commissioner with a vehicles to enable them carry to carry out their duties with ease and promptly.
“The current legal framework which we are working under is stronger than before and therefore, the Kenyan constitution stipulates what is expected of all of you,” she added.
The PS told chiefs that the road map of their existence is very clear now and asked them to take their rightful position to perform their duties with confidence.
