Beatrice Mueni who is Gatundu North Health and Environment officer has cautioned hotels owners in Gituamba against draining their daily litter in the open drainage systems at night.

Mueni has also directed landlords in the township to manage their liquid waste properly or their premises would be shut down until they comply with the law.

"Some property owners are discharging raw sewage into open drainage systems and thus posing a major health hazard to Chania river water users in this area," she noted.

Mueni who was speaking in a tour to Gituamba on Thursday 26th November 2015 lamented over the lack lack of a sewerage system in Gituamba town citing the lack as the genesis of the waste mismanagement problem for Gituamba ward.

"I am warning hotel owners and operators against throwing litters all over without caring about the impact of their action. I am not going to relent with regards to the fight against poor environmental conservation," she said.

Mueni said that proper measures must be put in place in order to ensure that water is safe from contamination from the raw sewerage to avert possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases in this sub county.

"We are in the process of ensuring a better sewerage system for all townships in Gatundu North is established," she revealed.
