Saving and credit co-operatives (Saccos) in Nakuru are helping youth achieve their dreams.

The Saccos which in the past have been associated with older people, are now attracting young people in the area.

Besides offering cheap credit compared to commercial banks, the Saccos also enable young people get credit with ease since the requirements are friendly to them.

Boniface Gitau is proud to be a co-operator in Vision Africa Sacco.

Gradually but surely Gitau is making big steps out of poverty thanks to his Sacco that is taking him closer to his vision. 

He has kissed poverty goodbye, setting his eyes to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Today, he not only affords to offer a good life to his family but he has employees who depend on him.

“Since the year 2010 when I joined the Sacco, I have greatly bettered how I handle my finances. I have improved on savings and spending money for the right purpose,” says the married father of two.

From working as a boda boda operator, Gitau now owns two tuk-tuks owing to his Sacco’s support.

He is not only a beneficially of a Sacco’s services. 

Euphremia Awuor, 28, too is closer to achieving her dreams. In fact, she has attained most of them. 

She has had a successful partnership with Ukombozi Sacco.

When she joined the Sacco in 2012, her intention was to save, make reality her dreams, acquire assets and earn dividends.

A colleague had informed her about the Sacco and how people were benefiting. She joined and she has no neglects.

Awour, who is a social worker, today is a proud owner of land at her home Rongo area in western Kenya. 

Together with her husband they have also bought a plot. Had she relied on salary only, she notes, much of what she has accomplished would have remained dreams.

“We are planning to develop the land,” says the married mother of one.
