The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is seeking support from all stakeholders to be able to win the trust of Kenyans as the country gears for 2017 general election.
The Commission Vice Chairman Lillian Mahir-Zaja said that after the 2013 general election, IEBC lost trust amongst Kenyans.
Mahiri said that in terms of politics the public is divided on the support to the electoral body.
“Many people view IEBC as their enemy, we need support of every Kenyan so that we can have a prudent election,” she said.
She said there is need for a concerted effort among different stakeholders to build and nurture the confidence of Kenyans on IEBC.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday when she opened a one day media regional forum organised by the Commission, Mahiri said IEBC will be reaching out to other institutions as a way of building confidence amongst Kenyans.
She appealed to the media to shelve some of their interests and assist the Commission to deliver a proper election in 2017.
“Media is the only bridge that can help us reach out to every Kenya. Please media be independent, like us in the coming election,” he said.
Mahiri said that it is the wish of the Commission to conduct a free and fair electoral process but only if supported.
