Mothers in Nakuru County have been asked to ignore rumours that the polio vaccine can cause infertility in their children.

Thousands of children aged below five years will beginning Sunday start getting the polio jab.

The exercise to be conducted free of charge by the Ministry of Health officers will be different from the previous ones because they will be administered through injection to children aged 14 weeks and below instead of orally.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Nakuru North DO 1 Kithinji Ithai, have asked residents to make sure that their children have been attended to, saying they are ready to offer even transportation in case of any need.

“We shall arrest all parents who will ignore this exercise by denying children their right to good health,” said Kithai while speaking with this writer.

According to polio global eradication initiative, polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease.

There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines.
