Politicians from Nyamira County have been urged to shun individualism and embrace dialogue to chat the way forward in terms of development.

Annette Onsando, a politician from Kitutu Masaba who was attending a fundraiser at St Paul Gekano on Sunday said the county was likely to lag behind in development if politicians held on to rigid views.

She said leadership had evolved and urged area politicians to work as a team to boost development for Nyamira people.

“The reason why we are seeing sluggish development is because some of us are too individualistic and rigid to accommodate other people’s views. Unless we accommodate one another, we are likely to continue battling underdevelopment,” she said.

Onsando said many leaders were not ready to accept constructive criticism and dialogue to discuss issues affecting the county, but instead concentrated on outdoing each other.

“What we must appreciate that no one is perfect. Therefore, it is not proper to be rigid. Constructive criticism and dialogue will help us make a huge step in development. Going to funerals and fundraisers to defend your opinion isn't right for our people,” she said.

She urged Nyamira residents to unite and shun leaders who were only interested in their political interests at the expense of electorates.

“And we must be very careful with these strongly opinionated politicians who think they are perfect. We ought to make wise decisions by denying them a chance to serve in public offices,” she said.
