The government has resumed issuance of national identity cards in Mombasa after the systems in Huduma centre were upgraded.
Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said a technical hitch on the systems had delayed the issuing of identity cards.
Ms Kariuki who urged the residents to visit the centre following a successful system upgrade said it will address concerns raised by youth and the residents in getting national identity cards.
“There was a hitch in terms of ID issuance because of a system upgrade and maintenance. We did this in December because there was less rush, the residents can now renew and get their IDs at the centre following a successful system upgrade," said Ms Kariuki.
The minister who was speaking on Monday during a tour of Mombasa’s Huduma Centre said the government is set to expand the Huduma Kenya programme by opening more Huduma Centres across the country.
Many residents in the county have been turned away for the past two weeks during the upgrade and maintenance of the systems.
Most of the residents especially the youth have been complaining that they are being harassed by police officers because they do not have ID cards.
