Two men facing charges of being in possession of rhino horns were on Wednesday released on a Sh10 million bond each by a Mombasa Court.
The two, Mr Ali Omar Haji and Mr Said Alfani Mwinyi were granted the bond after filing an application before Mombasa Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache.
The two were accused of being found in possession of rhino horns worth Sh3 million on December 27, 2016, when they were arrested at Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa, as well as financing terrorism and dealing in narcotics.
However, the two denied being in possession of the rhino horns weighing 1,406 kilogrammes.
State Counsel Erick Masila who had opposed the bond application told the court that investigations were on course and the suspects were a flight risk, and may cause danger to the public.
While making her ruling, Magistrate Mochache said the State failed to provide compelling reasons on why the accused persons should not be released on bail.
Ms Mochache ordered the accused persons to be released on a Sh10 million bond each with a surety of a similar amount.
The magistrate however ordered the two suspects to surrender their passports to the court and to report to the investigating officer once a week.
They two also denied a second charge of dealing in wildlife trophies without a permit.
