Youth in Karai in Kikuyu sub county have been urged to embrace agribusiness as a source of livelihood in order to curb idleness brought about by joblessness.
Speaking on Tuesday at Nachu ACK church where a 2-day agribusiness forum was being held at Karai, the area Member of County Assembly Hon. John Magua challenged youths in the area to venture into agribusiness.
He said that farming in the 21st century had developed greatly with methods such as green house farming which the youth would flourish in if only they embraced it.
He said that farming in this century requires young people who are also educated in order to be able to adopt to emerging farming technologies in the sector.
"The problem we have is that most youths are well educated with degrees but when they come out here and lack employment with regards to whatever they studied at the university, they give up thinking there are no other ways. Some even tend to think that farming is for the illiterate in the society which is very wrong," said Magua.
The MCA said that the problem preventing the youth from fully embracing agriculture is the mentality they have towards farming which if put aside, they youth can take agribusiness to the next level.
