Residents of Kamwangi town in Gatundu North sub county have been urged to attend public participation forums concerning liquor selling points.
John Karue, the deputy of the public and civil works in the sub county noted that the input of the local residents on the establishment of bars, wines and spirit shops in the town were minimal and thus he urged them to forward their recommendations to the area commissioner offices.
"There are over 20 bars and 10 wines and spirits shops in Kamwangi town alone and reducing the outlets will depend on the input and decision from wananchi living around this town," he said.
"Most of the premises are in good condition and would qualify to be issued with the licenses unless locals will refuse depending on the issues raised on such bars," he added.
The residents in the 2 centres have been complaining that their youth and mostly husbands had deserted their parental responsibilities and plunged into excessive alcohol consumption.
The area commissioner Daniel Nyamiti held several meetings in the areas and assured the residents of scaling down the number of alcohol selling points in order to allow sobriety and better responsible drinking that paves way for development.
"Our commissioner has had several meetings with chiefs and other stake holders to deliberate on the outlawed liquor in this area after the public started complaining on the increase of bars and wine and spirit around towns. We will hold a forum on Thursday this week at the governments ground in Kamwangi," he added.
The residents from the sub county have in the past complained of the high number of bars, wines and spirit shops forcing the administration both in the county and national government to cut down the numbers drastically.
The officer was speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Monday.
