Kangundo Sub-County administrator Anne Masai has asked residents to report cases of emergencies that may arise due to the heavy rains being experienced in the area.

Speaking during a press conference outside her office in Kangundo Town on Thursday, Masai said that a fast call for help would go a long way in saving lives and reducing damage of property.

"There are emergency numbers that one can dial including 999 which are not charged by any telecommunication company. The calls are received at any time of the day or night, everyday of the week, by civil servants who have the responsibility to respond to emergencies," said Masai.

She strongly discouraged the residents from keeping their problems to themselves arguing that the move might put residents' lives at risk in situations where help can be accessed.

Masai encouraged residents to be their brothers keeper during the rainy season in a bid to avert calamities.

She urged residents to report any situation that may seem risky like overflowing dams, loose hill rocks or weak bridges to enable authorities to take the necessary measures.

She encouraged residents to relocate to safe grounds and urged them to avoid risky situations like crossing swollen rivers.
