Kenya African National Union (Kanu) North Rift officials have urged youths to get identity cards and register as voters.
Speaking in Eldoret town during a press briefing on Monday, North Rift Kanu Chairman Jonathan Bii said youths should take national identification cards and register as voters for them to participate in choosing the leadership of the country.
"Despite youths being fifty per cent of Kenya's population, majority's don't participate in choosing the leadership of the country simply because they haven't registered as voters," he said.
He said it's time youths of this county get serious and register as voters since it's the only way they will be guaranteed to get leaders of their choice to address their problems.
"Youths have always been taken for granted as people who don't have a stand, since they can be swayed either way after being given some money. It's time we wake up from deep slumber and elect leaders who can help the youth and that's only through voter registration. The future of Kenya depends on youths," he said.
He added that the voter registration in the North Rift in general is very poor and urged Kenyans to turn up and register as voters since it's their right for them to be eligible in the the next general election.
