Kasuitu village chief has said several residents within Athi River Sub-County still hold the first generation national identification cards.
Chief Nicholas Paramisa said such individuals are disadvantaged because the cards are no longer recognised by the government.
"It is unfortunate that several residents of Kasuitu village have not replaced their first generation national identification cards," said Paramisa.
Speaking on a phone interview on Monday, the chief said majority of the residents who still possess the first generation IDs are the elderly.
"You cannot do any business transaction such as banking and Mpesa, or benefit from government projects and incentives as a Kenyan with the first generation ID," said Paramisa.
Paramisa said majority of the residents have not replaced their IDs as most of them are squatters and had been neglected and sidelined by the government.
The chief urged the residents who posses the old generation IDs to visit his office so as to receive the necessary assistance and have their IDs replaced.
