The Kenya Correspondent Association has called on the government to protect journalists who fled from Burundi following the instability in the country.
KCA chairman William Oloo Janak said that there has been an increase in the number of people who have been entering the country after the war broke out.
Mr Janak was speaking at Bontana hotel on Wednesday where he added that the journalists were traumatised by the ordeal they underwent in their country.
“Currently over 80 journalist have fled the country and we are concerned about their whereabouts. They need support not only in terms of material help," said Janak.
He called on the Media Council of Kenya and The International Federation of Journalist to intervene in the situation
“Most of them are struggling to earn a living and hence they need even basic commodities like food, shelter and blankets,” he added
Janak also called on the Kenyan media houses to offer job opportunities to the Burundians as a way of ensuring they have a source of income.
“Many were prominent anchors and award winning journalists and many just need an opportunity to restart life again," he added.
Janak said that they were planning for physic social support for the journalists.
“We are talking to various organisations to help us in getting professional counselors who will ensure that they get treatment,” he said.
