Kenya Re director Jadiah Mwarania on Friday morning joined his staff in advocating for equal rights to people living with disabilities.

Speaking at the DC grounds, Mwarania said disabled people in society are not equally treated like other normal people and most people do not recognise them.

He spoke during the Niko Fiti campaign that seeks to help all disabled people in the region to be given wheelchairs to help them carry out businesses with ease.

“This campaign was launched four years ago and as per now, we have been able to help disabled people with devices such as wheelchairs and walking sticks,” said Mwarania.

The forum aimed to sensitise residents to know the objectives of the organisation.

“We are here today to give out wheelchairs to the disabled so that they can access places where they could not be able to reach. We want the disabled to be involved in social-economic activities,” he added.

Beth Nyaga from Kenya Re said the wheelchairs will help the beneficiaries in setting up businesses at any place they will choose.

The campaign is set to be taken to Kasarani in two weeks time where disabled people will also be given the wheelchairs.
