Kiambu region TNA Coordinator Gladys Chania has lamented that university students leadership in Kenya has lost its political and social influence.

She said that in years past, student leaders would influence the destiny of the country through mass advocacy for positive change.

Chania challenged MKUSA leaders to mobilise the students to transform their institution, Thika Town, Kiambu County and the country in general.

She urged them to enhance unity among all students regardless of their ethnic backgrounds saying that such unity was vital in preparing them to take over Kenya's leadership mantle from the current politicians.

“It pains me to see students fail to take their rightful position to influence positive change in the country and in the society they live in. Where did the firebrand scholars like Kabando Wa Kabando and James Orengo go? These students used their power to influence positive change in the country,” she said.

She added, “Leadership needs people with the zeal and passion for fighting for the rights of others. Leaders are aware of their immediate environment and can influence legislation of proper laws that will benefit their people. Leaders, create leadership from every point in life. You got to grab this opportunity and make your presence felt in all circles."

She was speaking in the institution on Saturday where she called on students to register as voters for a chance to express their views in the coming general elections.
