Kiambu County is among the few lucky counties expected to benefit from the symbiotic cities being set up by the Swedish government in Kenya, according to Governor William Kabogo.

Speaking at the TDBA Trade Fair in Thika town on Thursday, Kabogo said the region will benefit a lot from the ‘Swedish model’ yet to be set up in the county.

“The Swedish government has found potential in our county and I am delighted being a beneficiary of this mega project,” the county boss said.

The governor said the Swedish government representatives and members from African Development Bank had paid him a courtesy call to review the county’s road-map in agriculture and come up with ways to support agriculture in the region.

“We had invited donors to help us develop agriculture in the county since we cannot do so without development associates,” he added.

The county chief said the development partners promised to set up farmers’ agricultural training centre, green facilities in Thika East, Juja and Ruiru Sub-counties to fight post harvest problems.

Meanwhile, the minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Monica Waiganjo, called on the partners to help farmers develop the already existing and established value chains in the county.

“I urge the donors to chip in and help us improve the value chains of bananas, sorghum, milk and indigenous chicken which are already established in our county,” Waiganjo said.
