Kiambu Bar Owners Association Chairman Richard Kari has urged county commissioner Mr Alex Nkoyo to intervene over frequent harassment by county askaris and police.
The Bars Association chair claimed that some county askaris are harassing bar operators in Kiambu and other towns in the county.
In a briefing with journalists on Tuesday in Kiambu Town, the chairman alleged that some county askaris storm bar outlets and demand for money from operators.
Kari said that bars operating in the town are operating legally adding that intimidation and harassment by the police has hampered their businesses.
“We are very bitter business people because there is nothing we get from our businesses as a result of harassment and intimidation from some police and county askaris,” he said.
Kari asked the county commissioner to investigate the matter and take action against the said askaris.
He noted that it was unfair for bar operators to be intimidated yet they possess genuine licenses.
The Bar Owners Association chairman urged members to report such cases so that appropriate action can be taken.
Meanwhile, Kari has called on members to adhere to the regulations to avoid falling on the wrong side of the law.
He urged licensed operators to ensure that they renew their licenses on time and pay the required levies to the county government for smooth operation.
