Residents of Kiamumbi in Kiambu County have praised police officers in the area for their timely response to crime.

According to residents, police response to crime has significantly improved.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the residents said that presence of law enforcers on 24-hours patrols has seen crime decline.

“It is encouraging that our law enforcers are committed to addressing crime in this area,” said John Mbuthia, a resident.

Mr Mbuthia noted that police reaction to several cases of crime reported in the area has been good.

The residents further applauded the police for conducting their raids and operations in a professional manner.

Simon Kiarie, a resident said that days when police used to harass and intimidate people are gone.

“The police force has reformed over the years and we are happy by the professionalism and humane conduct they are showing,” Mr Kiarie, who is area Nyumba Kumi coordinator, said.

He noted that the introduction and implementation of reforms in the security sector will go a long way in taming crime and other insecurity issues.

Meanwhile, police in the area on Monday shot dead a suspected kidnapper at Miaraho trading center.

According to police, the suspect who was being trailed by police defied orders to surrender before he was killed.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that manhunt for his accomplices is ongoing.

He said the accomplices escaped into the Miaraho farm near the Northern Bypass. The OCPD said that the suspects had kidnapped a victim on Monday night.

He assured residents that police will intensify patrols in order to smoke out criminal elements.
