A section of Kibera women have called on NACADA officials to conduct an abrupt check to put an end to illicit brews in the slum.
According to the women, the cheap liquor being consumed by their husbands and children has become the source of marriage breakups and family quarrels.
Susan Akinyi, a resident from Laini Saba said that it is very sad that people know the repercussions of the cheap liquor yet they still consume it.
‘‘We have heard so many cases where liquor has led to blindness and death but it is a shame that our husbands still take it. NACADA, please visit this area and save our lives,’’ she said.
Another resident, Abubakar Juma said that the business is usually conducted in small, dark shelters and attracts a number of people.
‘‘The alcohol is sold for as low as sh10 to attract more customers. Youths and school going students pass here every evening to have their cup. It is slowly killing our children. I wonder if they even concentrate in class,’’ Juma.
Last year, one person died in Kamukunji after taking the illicit liquor.
