A South Korean nongovernmental organization based in Kenya, I Love Africa, on Monday donated text books and pens to Optimist High School in Kibera.
The institution was also given T-shirts which will be given to students once schools reopen next year.
Speaking when he received the items on Monday, John Maseka, a teacher at Optimist said he was happy to be given the materials since the school management had never applied for them.
“It is a good surprise. I am sure the students will be very happy when they come back to school next year. The books will help us improve our mean score because students will no longer scramble for a single book. On behalf of the school’s management, I must say thank you to I Love Africa,’’ he said.
He also thanked the Kibra MP’s office for the continued support to ensure that his campaign of Elimu Kwanza (Education First), reaches every person in society.
“Giving us the learning equipment means you are still advocating for education first. There is nothing important than giving education to a child. You better deny a child money but allow him/her to get education. This helps them in future,” he added.
