DC market traders in Kibera have been asked to put up strategies on environmental cleanliness for a healthy business environment.

Speaking at the market on Wednesday afternoon, Martin Otundo, the area county council officer said that the clean-up exercise should be organised in the market by traders who operate in the market to ensure that the environment is clean.

“We should not wait for the National Environment Management Authority or the National Youth Service to come and collect litter and other wastes in the market and within the slums of Kibera. We are the ones responsible for the cleanliness in the market,’’ said Otundo.

“As traders, you should act as watchdogs of the environment cleanliness and fight any practices that may lead to the destruction of environment that make the environment look dirty and give it a foul smell,” he said.

He added that when the environment is dirty, the chances of people contracting diseases are high which makes them weak in terms of health.

Otundo concluded by saying that each trader in the market should focus on proper garbage disposal as this will help to income and revenue generation.
