Vocational training centres in Kibera are essential to both men and women.
Women in Kibera have been advised to join vocational training centres to acquire skills that will help them earn income and stop depending on their men for food and other daily expenses.

Speaking Wednesday morning at her workplace at a welding workshop in Kenyatta market, a 10-minute walk from Kibera said she had to go for training and acquire welding skills two years ago when she found it hard to depend on her husband who works tirelessly to feed her and their blessed four children.
“I requested my husband who allowed me to train as a welder two years ago since I promised that I will work to meet the well-being of our family. He allowed me to attend training here at the workshop after he had paid Sh8,000 fees. I took four months to complete the course since I also had a small baby I was breastfeeding. I dedicated morning and evening hours for the training. After completion, I was employed here as a welder, I make metal doors, windows and do small repairs that enables me get some allowances for daily expenditure,” Mrs. Nanjala said.
She added that since then, she has been contributing to her family as her husband is busy looking for money to pay school fees for their first born who is joining secondary school next year.
“I urge fellow women to come out and join vocational training such dressing making, salon, welding to learn skills that will enable us women prosper in future not being dependent on our men,” she concluded.
