Different women's group in Kikuyu sub-county have come together in an effort to maintain hygiene in the region by building public toilets that will be a source of finance and also employment to the youth.
Speaking today at a joint women's meeting in Kikuyu township primary school, where about 33 different women's group gathered, the chair lady of the project Ms Felistus Wambui said they had noticed that lack of enough public toilets had greatly affected the hygiene in the region.
She said they took that as a business opportunity and also a way to benefit the society.
She said in most occasions, residents would help themselves on the streets hence making the areas stuffy.
The chair lady revealed that in order to make the project possible, they had to come together as women in different groups.
She revealed that by coming together, they were able to identify that, as a good source of income and also as a way of maintaining hygiene, especially among residents.
She observed that besides building the toilets, it would also create job opportunities for the youths who would be needed to work and ensure the business is doing well.
She said that Zambezi, Kinoo, Gitaru and Kabete were the main areas that would benefit from the project.
