Metal scrap dealers in Kirigiti, Kiambu sub county have been urged to register with the area chief following the increased cases of some dealers collaborating with criminals.
Speaking on Wednesday after boda boda operators complained over their sheds' iron sheets being stolen, the Kirigiti area chief Mr. John Ikinya said that the business has brought in a lot of criminal activities. He said that some of these dealers take in stolen goods without care which can land them into trouble.
"I want to tell all metal scrap dealers in Kirigiti to register with my office immediately and the deadline is 2nd December," said Ikinya.
He said that boda boda operators had complained following the increased vandalism of their sheds. He also said that some residents had recently spotted their items in metal dealers shops and some dealers arrested for the same. He said that the scrap dealers had licenses from other government agencies but due to the crime being experienced in the area, it would be important for the dealers to provide their details for administrative purpose.
"Those who will not have registered by that time will face legal action for not abiding to the rules," said Ikinya.
He further urged boda boda operators to provide the names of those people they suspect might be engaging in the crime of selling stolen scrap metals to metal dealers. He also urged the legit dealers to be vigilant and very careful with the people who bring them the metals as some are stolen and might land them into serious trouble.
