The county governments of Kisii and Nyamira have partnered in constituting a team of doctors who will be empowered to promote healthcare in the counties.

The team under the umbrella of Inka Medics Association constitutes more than 300 specialist doctors who will be operating in all health centers across the two counties under the stewardship of Dr Dan Kiage of Kisii Eye Unit.

Speaking on Monday during the colorful event at Nyakoe Hotel, Kisii governor James Ongwae hailed the move and said it will tremendously improve healthcare of residents by taking the services close to people.

“I am so touched by this courageous move. Our people have traditionally traveled far to book appointments with specialists in different departments and I think they will now get a chance to find you closer to them. It’s a move that my government will keenly support,” he said.

Nyamira deputy governor Mr Amos Nyaribo lauded the association and urged residents to make good use of it to get optimum services from area doctors.

“When specialists come together to help us deal with special conditions, it makes it easy for people to access them without necessarily visiting their clinics or high level hospitals to receive the services. It’s now upon residents to make good use of the chance,” he said.

Dr Kiage on his part said IMA will come up with a concrete program that will cater for all 65 wards in the two counties with each getting services at specific dates.
