As an affirmative action, the Kisii County government will employ youth groups to help in improving the state of Daraja Mbili markert after rivers Riyabe and Nyakomisaro burst banks on Monday following a heavy downpour.

As a temporary measure, Governor James Ongwae said a number of youth groups will be hired for three months to unblock the drainage system and contain the situation.

"We will employ youth groups to help in unblocking the drainage system among other works in Daraja Mbili so that we can curb some of the effects of El Nino rains," said Ongwae.

He added: "We will not employ individuals because this will bring us a lot of issues. So, youth groups from this area should apply for the jobs from tomorrow so that by Friday we have them in the ground working."
