Leaders in Kisumu Central constituency have opposed the deployment of the National Youth Service youth in Kisumu.
The political leaders claimed on Tuesday that the deployment could be a ploy to rid the upcoming general election.
ODM party Treasurer Edward Ogolla said authorities in the town were better off taking responsibility to clean the town other than rely on NYS youth.
“We will not accept this this time round,” he said.
The party's branch Chairman Seth Kanga said Cord leader Raila Odinga has all along been opposed to NYS projects due to corruption.
Railways Ward Representative Isaiah Onyango on his part claimed the projects done by the youth has been linked to corruption.
Mr Onyango promised to talk to Governor Jack Ranguma to involve local youth in cleaning slums in the town.
“Arrangements will be made to pay the youth by the county government," he said.
Nyalenda A Ward representative James Were said NYS should first clean up its house following corruption allegations leveled against it.
“Corruption issues were raised on NYS, its director is out of office because of this. Let them first handle the matter before coming up with the second phase,” he said.
Last year, Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyongo linked the presence of the NYS youth in Kisumu to the insecurity that hit the town.
