Kisumu county government has been urged to embrace tree planting along major roads and highways.

Chairman of the Western Kenya Hotel Managers Association Robinson Anyal said that planting trees along the roads will beautify and make the lakeside city more attractive to vacationers.

“Since Kisumu is a tourist destination, the county government should consider planting trees along the roads and major highways. That way more holidaymakers will be attracted here,” he said.

“Other than the rapidly growing entertainment and hotelier industry, the county government should now shift focus to alternative ways of attracting tourists to the city,” explained Anyal.

Kevin Otieno who owns a tree seedling nursery along the Kisumu Nairobi asked the county government to consider planting blue gum and Cyprus trees along major roads in the city.

“Of course this will beautify the city and it will also protect the area residents from dust particles generated from the roads by moving vehicles,” said Otieno.
