Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company Limited (KIWASCO) has blamed power outages in one of its water supply points for lack of water in some parts of the town.

The company said the Dunga substation has experienced electricity outrages hampering the pumping of the precious commodity.

Several parts of the town, especially residential areas have experienced water shortage in the past two weeks, with residents having to depend on the expensive supplies by vendors.

The areas which have been affected include the entire Central Business District, Milimani, Dunga, Nyalenda A and B, Nyamasaria, Nyalenda Railways and parts of Argwins Kodhek.

However in a press statement signed by Customer Care Manager Eldah Odhiambo and sent to media houses regretted the inconvenience caused to ‘our esteemed customers’, saying they were working round the clock to normalise the situation.

The company said they are in talks with the Kenya Power to find a permanent solution to the problem.

“Following the numerous complaints from our esteemed customers due to lack of water in parts of Kisumu City, Kiwasco wishes to alert the general public that water supply in our Dunga treatment plant has been interrupted due to frequent power outages,” read the statement in part.

It proceeded: “As KIwasco, we are consulting with the Kenya Power to find a permanent solution on restoring electricity supply in the station so as to normalize our operations.”
