Shem Nyaundi has raised concern over the credibility of this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams following revelations that exam questions were circulating on social media prior to exam dates.
The Kisii Central Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) branch Executive Secretary challenged Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) to account for the examination leakages, describing the situation as shameful.
Speaking to this writer on Thursday in his office in Kisii town, Nyaundi expressed fear about the quality of national exam grades if the current trend continues.
He said the credibility and integrity of the exams were highly questionable.
Nyaundi regretted that the integrity of the national exams was at stake and challenged the government to take urgent steps in restoring dignity of the exams.
"As a teacher and a parent, I am worried about the culture of exam cheating that is slowly emerging in the country, dogging the integrity and credibility of our national exams," he said.
He noted that if the issue is not well addressed a crisis is likely to befall the education sector.
